Jose Luis Mendez
Director
Director Jose Luis Mendez was born in Mexico City (CDMX). His love for dancing grew to what it has now become due to his experiences in the city. Mendez came to the Americans in search of a better life. He was always out working and life became stressful by the minute till he was invited to go dance and soon his passion became stronger. After he had a better understanding of the culture and its dances he decided to form the dance group Ballet Folklorico Corazon de Mexico, which was started in 2018. He has provided leadership to his students for more than 4 years.
He has attended workshops to help gain a better understanding of the different dances each state in Mexico has. To this day he still takes workshops whether they are online or in person. He puts in his best effort to make his students' experiences memorable.
Jessica Montiel
Maestra
My name is Jessica Montiel.
My family is originally from Jalisco, Mexico.
I've been a part of BFCDM since February 2019.
I fell in love with my culture the more I started learning dances on my own. I started helping my dance mates with skirt work and their makeup. I also showed the beginners new songs whenever I had the chance. Soon enough I started helping everyone out with whatever was needed. Before I knew it I was already an instructor.
As far as why I dance, I do it to represent my culture. I do it for my people. To represent where we came from, who we are. To bring a smile to the audience's face. I will never be able to explain in words how it feels seeing a little kid light up the room with the biggest smile on their face, when they see us perform on stage. Dance can get very stressful but at the end of the day it's all worth it. I've gained so many great friends. And I will always enjoy spending time with the group whether it's teaching or dancing alongside my dance mates. I hope to keep dancing as long as possible to keep the tradition alive among my future generations.

David Sosa
My name is David Sosa, I was born in Greensboro, NC.
My family is originally from Oaxaca, México. I study music and play the trombone in a band. I am part of the BFCDM thanks to the fact that my cousins invited me to participate. At first I wasn't sure I would like it but I soon changed my mind when I experienced the feeling of being able to dance through a complete choreography wearing a charro suit! I have been part of BFCDM since March 2019 and I plan to continue my journey with Ballet Folklorico Corazón de México for much longer.
